The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board held its 253rd
quarterly meeting in Washington, D.C. on December 6 and 7, 2011.
The
Board’s business meeting on Tuesday, December 6 included the election
of officers. Tom Healy was elected Chairman and Susan Ness was
elected Vice Chair.
Day One
Day one of the meeting was
held at the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. The Board
Members heard Fulbright program reports for Africa and Near East Asia
by the Branch Chiefs for those areas.
The Board also heard about
alumni initiatives from the Office of Alumni Affairs Global Alumni
Coordinator and the Office of Academic Exchange Programs
Senior Program Manager.
Day Two
Day two of
the meeting was held at the American Pharmacists Association. Assistant
Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Ann Stock
presented Chair Anita McBride with a certificate of appreciation for her
distinguished service as Chair of the Board over the past 2 years, and
also thanked Vice Chair Shelby Lewis for her many contributions as
Vice Chair. Ann stock then briefed the Board on her recent travel to
India.
The Board also heard from Principal Deputy Assistant
Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs J. Adam Ereli, in addition to the Managing
Director for Academic Programs, and the Acting Office
Director for Academic Exchange Programs.
