The J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) held its first quarterly meeting of 2011 at the American University School of International Service in Washington, DC, on March 16.
Two panel presentations highlighted the meeting. American University President Neil Kerwin greeted the Board and visitors, after which the Assistant Vice President & Director of International Student and Scholar Services moderated a panel, entitled "Partnering for Success: A Case Study of American University." Panelists included a Visiting Student from Cyprus, a U.S. Student alumna and administrators of the Fulbright grants at American University. Another panel, led by Institute of International Education representatives and including a Fulbright Student Alumni Ambassador, reported on the status of the U.S. Student Program.
The Board heard updates on the role of exchanges in the Administration’s foreign policy from Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs J. Adam Ereli, and on the status of strategic dialogues in education from Deputy Assistant Secretary for Academic Programs Alina L. Romanowski. The Branch Chief for European and Eurasian Programs, reported on the Fulbright Program in that region.
