Alumni Resources and Outreach

Participation in an exchange program is not a one-time event, but rather the beginning of an exchange of ideas that continues throughout a participant’s life. The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, in coordination with U.S. embassies, consulates and U.S. non-profit organizations, is increasingly offering support to alumni of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs through resources such as:

  • STATE ALUMNI (https://alumni.state.gov), an online global community for current and former USG-sponsored exchange program participants;
  • Support for U.S. embassies in alumni outreach and collaboration;
  • Alumni Associations in every region of the world;
  • Alumni related events; and
  • Opportunities to give back to the community via volunteering, projects, or mentor programs.

Making An Impact Upon Returning Home

Alumni find many ways to implement what they learned while on their exchange program after returning home.  Around the globe, alumni are fostering mutual understanding by sharing their talents, knowledge, experience, and time with their community. Many have also risen to positions of prominence. Read about how individuals are giving back.

Alumni Associations also play a key role in enabling alumni to give back to their community, as well as to share ideas. With more than 400 alumni associations and individual chapters around the world, read more about how groups are making an impact in their communities.

The State Alumni website is a key resource for alumni, providing access to not only valuable resources, but other alumni as well.
