| Ceremonial, sumptuary, and funerary bone objects produced and used by indigenous cultures from the Formative period to A.D. 1533. Used extensively in the Tiwanaku culture, these bone pieces were thought to contain a variety of products from tints to hallucinogens. The surface is finely carved, with polychrome decorations of birds, animals and often geometric figures. These objects are recovered from diverse contexts from funerary to ceremonial places. | |
