Description of Designated List Category Subject to Import Restrictions:
Crucifixes are made of wood, maguey, alabaster, silver, gold, bronze, brass. Size varies from 5 cm. to 200 cm. It is the main symbol of Christians, that is why it is represented in different materials, types, styles and size during the Colonial period in Bolivia. There are several types of crosses, during the XVI century there are Latin crosses with a larger vertical arm that a horizontal piece; and the Greek cross with all of the arms the same length. These crosses were used in the sacristy, processionals, and on the altars. Many had attributes that represented a particular saint, religious and civil orders. These examples were made of gold, silver with semi-precious stones and other metals inlaid. They often have a plain or multi-color image of Christ and the symbols of the passion.
