Includes depictions of patron saints (santos/santas), angels, Christ, the Virgin Mary, the apostles, and the Holy Family on wood, metal, canvas (lienzo), and other cloth. With or without frame. The archangel is a central theme. Oil painting is found on objects as small as reliquaries (3 cm.), mid-sized canvas (one square meter), or wall-sized renditions. This is a group of oil paintings, tempera or mixed paintings on canvas and less iron wood or metal. Their dimensions vary from 30 x 25 cm. to 3 x 3.50 meters. They were produced during the XVI-XVII and XVIII centuries during the colonial era in Bolivia. The subject matter for these paintings varies with examples of: The Announcement; The Visit; The Nativity; The Epiphany; The Adoration of the Shepherds and the Magi; The Presentation at the Temples; The Escape to Egypt; Jesus preaching; Jesus entering Jerusalem; Jesus with Mary Magdalene; The multiplication of the loaves and fishes; The Last Supper; The Ecce Homo; Jesus with the Cross; The Crucifixion; The descent from the cross; The Garden Tomb.
