| Characterized by red and black painted designs over orange or cream background. Vessels forms include straight and incurving-neck jars and hemispherical bowls. Jars may have strap handles (often with small monkey adornors on the surface). Bowls have rounded or convex bottoms; bowls may have lug appendages on the exterior. Exterior decoration includes painted and incised geometric (knots, mats, pyramids, step-frets, S-shaped motifs, inverted V motifs with interior dots, checkerboards, triangles) and animal forms (lizards, serpents, birds, monkeys). Interior motifs include bands and wavy lines. See Henderson and Beaudry-Corbett 1993. |
