The first ever State Department-sponsored American youth group to Saudi Arabia began on July 23, when the 20 students and two adult leaders flew to Jeddah to begin their three-week visit to the Saudi Kingdom. They will be hosted by families and participate in activities designed to teach them about Saudi society and culture. The students were selected in an open competition conducted nationwide by AFS-USA, the Bureau’s grantee for the project. The participants are from eleven states.
