Subject: Developing Business Skills among Indigenous Women

El Camino College’s Business Training Center provides approximately 100 Nicaraguan women with business skills training during a five day workshop to promote growth in Nicaragua. Thirty Nicaraguan women have a four week residency in California that includes hands-on training to further improve their entrepreneurial and leadership skills.

Name of Organization: Quebec-Labrador Foundation
Location: Ipswich, MA

Subject: Improving effectiveness and accountability of local government

Cooperating with three local non-profit organizations in Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru, the Quebec-Labrador Foundation is conducting six in-country workshops to encourage public participation in community decisions while also engaging citizens in stewardship of their natural resources and cultural heritage. Fifteen local leaders from the Andean region come to the United States for three weeks to observe and learn about civic activism at the local level. In addition, twelve staff members (six from the U.S. partner organization and six from the Andean partner organizations) are spending one-month in a job sharing exchange.

Subject: Empowering Young Peruvian Entrepreneurs

Thirty emerging, young Peruvian entrepreneurs are learning leadership skills to empower them to engage in business development. The group includes representatives from diverse regions and ethnic groups in Peru, including Quechua, Aymara, and Afro-Latinos is spending three weeks in the U.S. visiting a wide variety of businesses. Fifteen Americans are prepared to return to Peru to engage in consultations and demonstrations workshops with the returned participants.
