I would like to begin my essay with a thank you; I would like to thank everyone who has worked to make it possible for students like me be here and have a great cultural exchange. I have already learned a lot of stuff about society in the USA that I could share with everyone at home.

On the very day of my arrival I got involved in a public celebration in honor of those who survived cancer called Relay for Life Walk. It is a charity event held in Jackson at the Cascade Park in August for the American Cancer Society. I was there as a member of the Spring Arbor Fire Department.

As time went on I got involved in the Spring Arbor Fire Department fundraiser. They organized a garage sale in order to raise money for charity. My chore was to help the firemen with their sale and then help clean up the fire .station. From this garage sale, I learned that a sale is not always held to get money for the things you don't need. They had a lot of expensive items that were being sold for nothing. It was actually a small charity event organized by the Spring Arbor Fire Department. Instead of throwing stuff they didn't need away they brought it to this garage sale in order to give someone who can't afford buying something they really need, a chance to buy it at a very low price. From this sale I also learned that there may be something you don't need, but do not throw it away, there may be someone who really needs it and can't afford one so you must always find ways to help your community.

While doing my community service at the fire department I also found something I was really interested in, computer parts. I have bought a lot of computer parts for only about $20 for which I would have to pay much more anywhere else. After a couple of days from my purchase I put together a computer, so now I have my own computer and everything to go with it. I also found out that I had a lot of computer stuff left. With all the computer parts I had left, I put together three more computers that were ready to work. Every computer had everything from a mouse to a printer.

Then I asked myself, "what can I do with all the computers I don't need so those who need them can benefit? ". I also thought about who needs them and how they could be put to good use. I talked to Bryan and Kathy (my host family) and we decided to find a place like a homeless shelter to install the computers. I wanted to make a small donation for my host community. Of course the computers were not very modern, but they were in good condition and ready for work.

We thought that homeless people from the shelter could learn basic principles about working at a computer. By doing this I knew that it will help a lot of people who were beaten by their destiny and homeless. They could get employability and could get a better job knowing how to work on a computer. They could also learn simple tasks like typing and working in simple programs like Word or Excel. The whole society can benefit from an act like. It will help, as I previously said by making the homeless more skilled in working on a computer. This skill will help them find a better job, so the money earned could organize their personal family life. It could also be an example of charity for other private organizations.

I also benefited from this, I got personal satisfaction because I have done something good for the sake of all people. I can't describe this feeling when you do something that makes other people you don't know happy, and smiling because of your actions. By doing this I also learned how to set this up in my country. This also gave me a volunteerism spirit.

Now I know for sure what I will do when I go home. I will do my best to help my home community with all the knowledge I got during my community service and during the Future Leaders Exchange Civic Education Program if you I am given a chance to attend it.

The information about the U.S. federal system of government and democratic concepts will help me a lot because my future career plans are directly related with governmental workings. I want to become an economist and work for my country's federal system of government. This way I could implement some principles of your democratic government into the life of my country in order to improve our economic le'vel and standard of living. I am really interested politics and economy so I think that participating in this work will be very useful for me and for the future of my country.

Thank you very much for considering me for this contest.
