Program Redesignation

Redesignation is required every five years, unless the program has been designated for a shorter period of time by the Department of State. Au Pair Exchange Programs are redesignated every two years. The period of designation and the redesignation due date are stated in the Designation or Redesignation Letter or in the most recent official correspondence amending the designation.

Sponsors may advise the Exchange Visitor Program staff of their desire to be redesignated by submitting a completed Form DS-3036 or by so indicating on the Annual Report Form.

The sponsor is to complete and notarize the requisite redesignation application form and submit it to the Department. The sponsor's program file, annual reports, and other relevant program documents are reviewed, and, if necessary the sponsor may be asked to provide additional information.

A letter of redesignation is issued once the Department has determined that the sponsor's program is in compliance with all relevant regulations.
