English Teaching Forum 1995, Volume 33

  • Forum 1995
  • Number 1
  • Number 2
  • Number 3
  • Number 4

Number 1
This issue spotlights stories and storytelling. Individual articles focus on storytelling and the art of teaching, story theater, enhancing English teaching with Caldecott Award (illustrated) books, conflict and role play in narrative writing, and the story “Hatim’s Hill.”

Number 2
The articles deal with teaching English through the content of business and commerce. Topics include entrepreneurial English, integrating student projects into ESP classrooms, using mazes for teacher training, distance in-service training, company course design, and business correspondence by fax.

Number 3
The theme is the potential of literature to enhance an EFL program. Articles discuss sound in meaning, semantic mapping, developing appropriate materials, the causal mechanism of hyperbole, African American women in literature, and a discussion of what is (and what isn’t) an “error.”

Number 4
Authors look at what language teachers are discovering as they explore cyberspace. Topics include “modem” times (how electronic communications are changing people’s lives), revisiting McLuhan’s thesis that the medium is the message, literary portfolios and ESP, and structuring scientific discourse.
