Regional English Language Officers

Regional English Language Officers (RELOs) are U.S. State Department employees who provide guidance to embassies and in-country officials on English as a Foreign Language methodology and best practices.

The duties of a RELO include:

  • Organizing and participating in teacher training seminars and workshops
  • Advising embassies on questions pertaining to English teaching
  • Conducting needs assessments
  • Consulting with host-country ministry, university, and teacher-training officials
  • Facilitating workshops on EFL Methodology and best practices

RELOs also work closely with English Language Specialists and English Language Fellows.
