Turkish Student Teacher Project

The Turkish Student Teacher Project provides pre-service professional development for forty Turkish graduate students of education on an eight-week U.S. - based program.  The participants receive practical teaching experience at high schools near the U.S. host university, and site visits introduce the Turkish participants to diverse schools in various parts of the country, while giving the student teachers an opportunity to share their culture with American audiences. The participants learn about student-centered teaching methods and the use of technology in teaching, gain practical experience through teaching practicums with mentor teachers, and attend professional development seminars on pedagogical topics. The program also offers curriculum development projects, opportunities to observe local school governance in action, and evaluation and debriefing sessions. The Turkish Student Teacher Project is currently administered by Iowa State University; more information on the project can be viewed at http://ctlt.iastate.edu/~tstip/index.html.
