Eleven secondary school principals from all regions of Armenia will arrive
in Burlington, VT on March 23, 2003 to learn about the role technology
plays in education. These principals were selected through an open competition
to participate in the School Administrators Training Initiative (SATI),
an educational exchange component of the Armenia School Connectivity Program,
funded by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural
Affairs. They will take part in seminars and workshops that focus on the
integration of information technology tools into education and will visit
Vermont schools that have successfully made this transition. The school
principals will live with host families during their stay in Vermont.
At the end of their three-week exchange, the school principals will travel
from Vermont to Washington, D.C. to visit with representatives of the
Department of State, Department of Education and the National PTA Organization.
They will also discuss best practices with a delegation of Armenian educators
at George Mason University, who are currently participating in the Bureau
of Educational and Cultural Affairs' Curriculum Development for School
Administrator Leadership Training (CDLT). Upon their return to Armenia,
they will create and publish materials on the application of information
technologies into school administration. They will also conduct seminars
in their respective regions to disseminate the skills and experience they
will have gained among their colleagues.
Through Project Harmony, the Armenia Connectivity 2000 (AC2K) program
was established in the fall of 2000. Working from this first grant, Project
Harmony connected 122 Armenian schools to the Internet through Internet
Computer Centers. Plans are underway to expand the program to 330 schools.
The new projects will include mobile internet lab to serve rural communities.
