Over 4,000 school administrators, principals and teachers attended the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) annual conference in Boston, March 1-3, which focused on how American secondary schools can better prepare students for global citizenship. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Alina Romanowski briefed attendees about ECA's high school academic year and short-term exchanges, online programs, and the new National Security Language Initiative, and encouraged independent schools to become involved in international exchange programs and to host foreign exchange students. Ms. Romanowski addressed over 200 participants at a Global Education Summit luncheon and hosted a workshop entitled, "Responding to America's International Challenge: The State Department's Secondary School Exchange Programs."
