U.S. Department of State and FORTUNE’s Most Powerful Women Host Second International Women Leaders Mentoring Partnership Program

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the FORTUNE’s Most Powerful Women, in partnership with Vital Voices Global Partnership, have joined together to launch the second International Women Leaders Mentoring Partnership taking place in May 2007. Thirty two emerging women business leaders from Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina, China (2), Egypt (2), Gaza, Ghana, Hungary (2), India (2), Indonesia, Kenya (2), Lebanon (3), Nepal, Nigeria, Peru (3), Poland, Russia, Rwanda, South Africa (3), Vietnam, West Bank, and Zimbabwe will be mentored by participants of the FORTUNE Most Powerful Women Summit.

Many of the same women have donated their time again this year including Ann S. Moore, Chairman and CEO, Time, Inc.; Patricia Fili-Krushel, Executive Vice President of Time, Inc.; and Anne M. Mulcahy, CEO, Xerox Corporation. New mentors this year include Patricia Woertz, CEO and President of Archer Daniels Midland and Donna Orender, President of the Women’s National Basketball Association.

The two-phased program will open with a three-day Orientation and Leadership Training session held in Washington, DC, on Monday, April 30, where the participants will meet with senior women in government, academia, and business, including Senators Hillary Clinton and Kay Baily Hutchison, Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Karen P. Hughes, Under Secretary of State for Management Henrietta Fore, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Organizations Kristen Silverberg, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Dina H. Powell, and Senior Adviser to the Secretary of State on Women’s Empowerment Dr. Shirin Tahir-Kheli.

The second phase will pair each of the 32 participants with one of FORTUNE’s Most Powerful Women Leaders. For two weeks, American and international participants will work together in mentoring relationships to share the skills and experiences necessary for strengthening women’s leadership. This portion of the program, which will take place in 18 cities across the U.S., will give the women an opportunity to observe best practices, learn organization and management skills, study business etiquette and practice their acquired skills and cultivate a valuable network of American professionals.

The International Women Leaders Mentoring Partnership is an innovative program that connects America’s leading women business leaders with emerging businesswomen from around the world. FORTUNE’s Most Powerful Women Leaders share their time, talent and expertise in business with the next generation of international women business leaders.
