Pangea Day at Facebook

On May 10, 2008, beginning at 18:00 GMT (2: 00 P.M. EST), the first Pangea Day live film event will commence simultaneously in Cairo, Kigali, London, Los Angeles, Mumbai, and Rio de Janeiro, bringing people across the globe together through the sharing of film, live music, and visionary speakers.  The four-hour event will encompass 24 short films spanning seven languages.  The event will be broadcasted live through television, the internet, and mobile phones.

Pangea Day was inspired by Jehane Noujaim and the TED Conference.  Noujaim is a 2006 TED Prize winner and an award-winning filmmaker. Pangea Day's mission is to overcome a world where people are often divided by borders, difference, and conflict and where “it's easy to lose sight of what we all have in common."  “Pangea Day seeks to overcome that – to help people see themselves in others – through the power of film.”

Pangea Day has gamered much attention on internet blogs and social networking sites such as Facebook. Celebrities involved in the event include Cameron Diaz, Goldie Hawn, Paul Simon, and Robin Williams, to name a few.
