Program Eligibility Details
Required:
- To be eligible for the EL Fellow program you must have:
- U.S. citizenship
- Master’s degree in TESOL or in a field related to English language teaching
- ESL/EFL classroom teaching experience
- Personal qualities of patience, determination, flexibility, teamwork, initiative, and a love of adventure
Preferred:
- Two years experience teaching ESL/EFL *
- One year experience training English language teachers and/or teacher trainers
- A minimum of one year teaching in the U.S. education system (K-12 or adult education)
- Demonstrated commitment to the field of English language teaching (e.g., membership in a TEFL/TESL professional organization; presentations at an EFL/ESL conference)
- Degree must be conferred by end of 2014 spring semester for regular cycle projects and by the end of 2014 summer semester for off-cycle projects.
- If the qualifying degree was awarded by a non-U.S. institution, it must be evaluated by an educational credential evaluation service. Visit National Association of Credential Evaluation Services for a list of evaluation companies.
- Two confidential letters of recommendation from professional or academic contacts, including one letter from a current or most recent supervisor, submitted by references directly through the on-line application (letters older than two years are considered invalid.)
*Definition of full-time academic year:
- University and community college setting: one academic year consists of two semesters or three terms at 12-15 contact hours/week
- K-12 public/private school setting: one academic year consists of two semesters or three terms at 30-40 contact hours/week
