Intensive Summer Language Institutes in China

At-a-Glance

The Intensive Summer Language Institutes in China is a six-week summer programs that provide the opportunity to study abroad to U.S. K-12 teachers and community college instructors of Chinese (Mandarin). Students enrolled in education programs who intend to teach these languages are eligible as well.

Teachers gain further knowledge of the target language and a greater understanding of the culture through activities that include: attending intensive language classes, peer tutoring, cultural excursions, and collaborating with foreign and American teachers on foreign language teaching methodology.

Six weeks

Eligibility and Application Overview

Public applications are accepted.

Applicants Must:

  • Hold U.S. citizenship
  • Be a non-native speaker of Chinese;
  • Speak Chinese at the intermediate or advanced level;
  • Currently teach Chinese at an accredited U.S. public or private school or community college, or be enrolled in a program leading to this career; and

The application period for the Summer 2013 program has closed.
