From November 20 to 25, three-time Olympian and world champion Lorrie Fair went to Afghanistan as a U.S. Department of State Sports Envoy. This first-ever program was a part of the U.S. Department of State’s Empowering Women and Girls through Sports Initiative, which aims to promote sports opportunities for women and girls worldwide. During her time in Afghanistan, Ms. Fair led soccer activities and interacted with female athletes on and off of the field.
She hosted a soccer clinic for the Afghan National Women's Football Team at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul on Thanksgiving Day. Her trip as a Sports Envoy showed her support for the Afghan women who have made significant progress in recent years. The program also reiterated the Department’s commitment to empowering women and girls through sports globally.
