Thirteen Idaho high school students participating in the Youth LEAD (Leadership, Engagement, Activism, Democratization) program, met with Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho on August 10, 2009. The students discussed their experiences in Jordan, Israel, and East Jerusalem, emphasizing the valuable first-hand education they received through their interactions with speakers, Israeli and Jordanian students, and excursions to cultural sites. Senator Crapo spoke about his own views and experiences in the Middle East and complimented the students on their knowledge of the region. The Youth LEAD program engages secondary school students from Israel, Jordan, the West Bank, and Idaho in reciprocal, intensive three-week-long residencies, focusing on leadership training, e-learning, civic education, volunteerism, cultural heritage appreciation, and intercultural skill building.
