On November 14, the U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. James F. Moriarty, met with students and teachers involved in the Global Connections and Exchange (GCE) program at Yusuf Multi Technical High School and Chowara Girls High school in Comilla. During his visit, the Ambassdor viewed brief presentations by three GCE students who showcased the benefits of participating in international, online activities. The Ambassador also gave brief remarks to students who had participated in GCE's 2008 U. S. presidential election project, stressing the importance of political cooperation, democratic and peaceful transitions, and the rule of law. Ambassador Moriarty also encouraged students to become change agents to foster development and growth in Bangladesh and advised them to begin prioritizing their life activities to plan for a successful career in the future. Several questions arose from the audience with regard to elections in Bangladesh and voting rights. Ambassador Moriarty responded by stating that he hoped Bangladesh would also have free and fair election like that of the United States. He ended the session by extending his appreciation to Relief International-Schools Online and the school management for their successful implementation of GCE in Bangladesh and for organizing the event.
