American Serbia and Montenegro Youth Leadership Exchange (A-SMYLE)

Logo of A-SMYLE Program

Program Description
The A-SMYLE program was established in 2005 to reach out to youth and create stronger linkages between the United States and Serbia and Montenegro. Students from Serbia and Montenegro, aged 15-17, have the opportunity to explore youth leadership, civic responsibility, community activism, democracy, and American society, as well as educate Americans about their country and culture.

High school students from Montenegro and Serbia spend one academic year in the United States, living with American host families and attending high school. Students take part in leadership development activities, civic education, and community service during the U.S. program and participate in alumni activities as they apply their experiences in the United States to their lives at home. Funding is provided through the Support for East European Democracy (SEED) Act.
