In August of 2002, the International Education and Resource Network (iEARN) launched the Building Respect through Internet Dialogue and Global Education Project (BRIDGE) through ECA support. This project continues to be supported through the Global Connections and Exchange Program and seeks to build the capacity of secondary schools in selected countries with significant Muslim populations to work with other schools around the world in online thematic project activity. Project work explores themes such as Culture, Civil Society, Globalization, and Language Learning. Now in its sixth year, the GCEP BRIDGE Program provides on-line exchange opportunities for over 15,000 students and teachers from nearly 1,500 schools in seventeen countries. This allows educators and youth to collaborate on commonly shared concerns and develop the tools, skills, knowledge and climate for discussing differing points of view, overcoming suspicion, dispelling stereotypes, and resolving conflict. The iEARN GCEP Program continues to promote academic, cultural, and community exchange through on-line professional development courses, individualized national workshops, a program-wide Master Trainer workshop, mini-grants to alumni, and scholarships to the iEARN Annual Conference and Youth Summit.
