Global Connections and Exchange participants in Turkmenistan

Global Connections and Exchange (GCE) - Turkmenistan addresses the US government’s shared interest with the government of Turkmenistan in developing Internet use in education in Turkmenistan. Through GCE - Turkmenistan, Turkmen students and teachers will be matched with partners in the United States to collaborate on online projects that enhance cultural exchange and increase mutual understanding.

Implemented by IREX, GCE capitalizes on the success and resources of the Internet Access and Training Program (IATP) in Central Asia, which has been operating public Internet centers in Turkmenistan since the year 2000. By expanding the size and hours of IATP centers in Ashgabat, Balkanabat, Dashoguz, Mary, and Turkmenabat, GCE trains students and educators to use technology for enhancing their curriculum and connecting them with their peers around the world.

Global Connections and Exchange Turkmenistan :

  • expands opportunities for students and teachers to improve educational opportunities through computer and Internet resources.

  • provides opportunities for teachers to gain experience with modern methodology, learn more about interactive teaching, and exchange ideas for improving education.

  • provides online venues for students to meet and participate in collaborative projects that enable them to share their culture, history, and perspectives with children in the United States and other countries.

GCE supports a tri-lingual website at www.gcetm.net, which will serve as Turkmenistan’s educational portal. Here, teachers and students will be able to freely find professional development and educational opportunities, exchange lesson plans with IT components, and share best practices.

If your school is interested in participating in a project with a Turkmenistan school, or you would like more information about the program, please contact Ari Katz at akatz@irex.org.
