   In his home country of Turkmenistan, Ibragim Nurjanov has been a tireless advocate for the well-being of people with disabilities, both as a sports trainer and as a participant in the Democracy Commission. As such, he was a natural candidate for an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) on the topic of “Promoting Disability Rights.”

9. International Women of Courage Honored for Advancing the Rights of Women and Girls

   Each year, the Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award honors women who have played transformative roles in their societies, often at great personal risk. This is the only Department of State award that pays tribute to emerging women leaders worldwide for championing human rights, women’s equality, and social progress.

10. Exchange Examines the Culture of Service in the United States

    State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs sponsored a multi-regional project through its International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) to examine the impact of volunteerism on the volunteers themselves and the communities they serve.
