ACES-placed American-Serbia and Montenegro Youth Leadership Exchange (A-SMYLE) student from Serbia, is described by his host family as a joy to be around, independent, responsible, and helpful.
Nikola enjoys introducing Serbian culture and country history to his host community and school. During International Education Week, Nikola loved seeing the faces of people while explaining his customs and traditions.
“It definitely made a big impact on my thinking on how I want to spread the word of cultures and all the beauty in diversity,” he said.
One of Nikola’s great accomplishments has been organizing a benefit concert at his school to raise money for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. As the initiator and principal organizer for this project, he organized all of the project components, including the budget, schedule, stage decorations, and performances. Student performances included dancing, singing, and enactments of any type of art and skill. Nikola loves dancing and did a solo dance as part of the performance. The whole school got involved with the project and it was a big success.
Nikola has straight A’s in school and is on the list of students with Honors. He is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, Key Club, and volunteers regularly at a retirement home by serving food to the elderly. He has volunteered over 60 hours so far with different community organizations and says that he plans to help “as long as I am standing.”
His host family is proud of Nikola’s dedication to the A-SMYLE program and for representing his country so well!
