   Through his NSLI-Y experience in Suzhou, Ben immersed himself in the language and culture he had only been able to explore from a distance.

   Dr. Meredith Lillich, 1953 Fulbright Student to Belgium, 1983 Fulbright Scholar to France

   

   After graduating from Oberlin College with a degree in art history, Meredith Lillich was eager to travel to Europe to see in person the artwork that she had been studying. She applied for and won a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award to Belgium.

5. Teaching Others to Reach for the Stars

   The outreach abroad program sought not only to engage optical scientists and engineers, but to also make a lasting impact on local high school students.

6. Fashion and the English Language

   As a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) in Malaysia, Lynn ElHarake faced the challenge of making the English language learning process interesting for her students. So she decided a good solution would be to merge her interests in fashion with English lessons.

7. Community Outreach through Coaching Softball

   Daley’s experience as an ETA in Malaysia was enriched through coaching softball.

8. Reading Connects Communities in the U.S. and Macedonia

   As a Fulbrighter Jennifer lived in Macedonia from September 2011 to July 2012-- helping to teach English and American culture in a number of classes at South East European University in Tetovo, as well as developing two of her own courses. In her spare time, Jennifer started an English club, in partnership with Read Across America, at the American Corner in Tetovo for young Macedonians.
