In coordination with US Soccer, the State Department sent former soccer stars Tony Sanneh and Kate Markgraf to Ethiopia. Tony and Kate worked with youth in the eastern Ethiopian city of Dire Dawa during a Youth Culture, Sport and Friendship Camp sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa. Not only did the envoys reach out to a population that is traditionally marginalized, the special program succeeded in promoting cultural exchange and cultural healthy living through sport.
