One-on-one with Sports Envoy Sam Perkins and Sports Visitor Joseline Kenyi from South Sudan
We went down there to, to Juba or as they call it South Sudan, and it was an interesting conversation because we found out after leaving or while we were there that coaches wanted to have more input on how to train, what to train kids as far as basketball.
A lot of ethnic groups particular in our country they fought each other and caused the problem of insecurity. But through sports recently we have different associations for sport activities, playing the role in bringing people together.
So basketball is a way to unite people because it’s a sport that you know, it’s up and coming in some places. And now that it’s happened they’re over here as guests of the State Department, we hope that they, with the stuff that we have given them, I hope that they can take something back to their players.
We learned a lot from this program. We found a lot of things which is very new to us. We can take it like the skills and the drills so that we can take it and reflect it to our country.
