Women's World Cup Program
Hillary Clinton: Sports is all about teams and about learning together and getting better, and contributing. And that is really our goal here with this very exciting effort.
Ann Stock: These two way exchanges in sports diplomacy bring people together for a common purpose and mutual understanding. It is my pleasure to now introduce a very unique team. 18 high school soccer players, they're from Bolivia, Germany, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Palestinian Territories, and South Africa.
Participant 1: This is the first program that the U.S.A., like came and got some people from other countries to come to the country and explore about the, like promote women's football, before the world cup.
Participant 2: With girls who came from different parts of the world...
Participant 3: That play soccer so that they can meet, like have a great time, meet each other and compare football from other parts of the world.
Participant 4: I thought it was just going to be some like training and stuff but no we are learning more than that. Through sports, through soccer you can do a lot of things, like work with kids, with different things, like being able to be part of a group, being a leader.
Participant 5: It's amazing just like learning all those new things about those new cultures, because I've never ever thought I'm going to meet a person from Bolivia or South Africa. And it's like been a pleasure to me because we are actually like talking, discussing some stuff about their culture. How do they do this, how do they do that, and all that, and it's been great.
Participant 6: We're all getting together and we're all like, wow, we want to come back again, and we were like a family, it was awesome.
Participant 4: The first thing we did was to be able to see the American, the U.S. team.
Participant 5: I've loved meeting all those soccer players, and I was like really impressed by how good they can play.
Participant 7: The baseball game was great.
Participant 4: Oh it was fun; it was like being in America.
Participant 6: That was amazing, because we all came as one, and we rooted for one team. We were as one unit, and we were having the most, the best time ever.
Participant 8: I am actually very excited to see the U.S. national team play against Mexico.
Participant 4: And well we're going to see Hillary Clinton, and that's, wow, something, there's just one chance of a lifetime.
Participant 9: Getting to know teammates from around the world has been an absolutely amazing experience. So much in so little time. I am learning so much about the American culture. And so much I didn't know about the girls from all over the world. I can't wait to take this all home with me.
