FLEX October Student of the Month

Husniya has lived with her family for six weeks and has been successfully jumping hurdles each passing week. She has enjoyed learning more about American culture firsthand. She has overcome her extreme fear of dogs and has shared about Tajikistan culture with her host family and the school community. Husniya has ventured into selecting and taking new classes at school, which had not been her usual practice at her home school in Tajikistan. She is trying out classes such as current events, biology, multimedia, and even art!

She has joined the soccer team which is also new for her and is excited every day that she is a part of the team. She was overjoyed when she was allowed to play in one of the games. In addition, Husniya has already done six presentations about her country, toother host families as well as a local school. She has been volunteering at the local recycling center and serving breakfast to families and the elderly at a local church, already fulfilling over 20 hours of volunteer work.

Husniya has become friends with the family dog now, overcoming her fears and determined to take part in her community as much as she can this year. She is participating in Spirit Week at school and is excited to attend her first school dance. All this is so new for her, and she tells her host family each day, “Today was great!” Husniya’s willingness and determination are outstanding, and her attitude toward daily challenges is exemplary. She has become a true family member and a friend to the other exchange students. One of Husniya’s favorite sayings is “Why not, I will only have this opportunity once in my life!"

Congrats, Husniya!
