FLEX Student of the Month – December 2016

Begimay, an ASSE-placed Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) student from Kyrgyzstan, has been very busy during her FLEX year to date. She is actively involved in community service, volunteering with several local elementary schools in after school programs for the students. She has performed over 60 volunteer hours so far, with a goal of completing more than 100 hours for the year. The highlight of her volunteer service has been being allowed to take training for tutoring and mentoring of elementary children, which typically only American students are allowed to take. Her tutoring/mentoring coordinator said that Begimay is faithful to her commitments and she always receives high reports on how she is doing with the children in the after school program.

Begimay completed a meaningful leadership project, where she interviewed a CEO of a local business. She learned much about the business and also that a leader has to “wear a lot of hats.” She received a lot of good advice for starting her own business.

To date, Begimay has given three country presentations and enjoys telling others about her country. She is also involved with the school club HOSA. They explore career opportunities in the health care field.  She likes learning about health and wellness.

Described as a very patient and optimistic person, Begimay has a bubbly, outgoing, contagious personality that draws in people that are around her.  Begimay’s local coordinator said “you just want to be around her.” Her host mother describes Begimay as sweet and kind and said that it has been a “great experience for us!”

Congratulations, Begimay!
