A-SMYLE Student of the Month – April 2014

Mina Vukosavljevic, a CIEE A-SMYLE student from Serbia, is a dynamic role model and A-SMYLE youth ambassador. She is always willing to experience new things and is quick to seize opportunities. Mina has performed over 100 hours of community service. She volunteered at several large community events such as the Austin Marathon, South by Southwest Festival, Great Urban Race, and Special Olympic Games. She enjoyed preparing traditional Serbian meals and participating in her host community Saint’s Day Serbian Festival where she took pride in sharing her home country’s culture. She also volunteered at Mobile Loaves, the Fishes and Wildflower Center, and area churches and schools. 

 

Mina, a straight “A” honor student, tutors her classmates as well as younger students in Algebra. She is a member of her school’s track and field team, Key Club, National Honor Society, and Elite Photography Club. She was chosen as the most active member of the Key Club in the month of February. In addition, she played an active role in the school’s newspaper and during sporting events she photographed most of the events’ activities.

 

Mina was selected to attend the Workshop for Youth Leaders in Teaching English (WYLTE) in Washington, DC. She learned classroom management and leadership skills that will help her teach English in her home country. Mina has already started developing project and training ideas to increase English language study and American culture in Serbia.
