1. December American Abroad Student of the Month: Hikaru Hayakawa

   Hikaru Hayakawa, a Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Abroad Program (YES Abroad) participant, is the U.S. Department of State’s December 2019 American Abroad Student of the Month. Hikaru graduated from Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey, and is currently a gap-year student in Skopje, North Macedonia.

2. American Abroad Student of the Month - February 2017

   Ariadna started a debate team at her host school in Amman, Jordan and takes cooking classes with her host mother on the weekends.

3. American Abroad Student of the Month - March 2017

   Known for his spirit of service, positive attitude, maturity and great sense of humor, Ben has been a joy to his host family and academic community in Sarajevo as a YES Abroad student and is a a true youth ambassador.

4. New Year's Eve in Dubai

   Before traveling to Oman on the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Program, Dylan Hoey had never left the United States.

5. American Abroad Student of the Month: February 2018

   Since day one of her program year, Jenesis has demonstrated the qualities of an exemplary exchange student while studying in Skopje, Macedonia.

6. December American Abroad Student of the Month

   Natasha Harris, a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) participant, is the U.S. Department of State’s December 2023 American Abroad Student of the Month.

7. January American Abroad Student of the Month: Elizabeth Stifel

   Lizzie Stifel, a Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Abroad Program (YES Abroad) participant from Easton, Pennsylvania, is the U.S. Department of State’s January 2020 American Abroad Student of the Month.

8. American Abroad Student of the Month - October 2017

   Dana Slayton, a National Security Language Initiative Youth (NSLI-Y) program participant, is the October 2017 American Abroad Student of the Month.

9. American Abroad Student of the Month - December 2016

   Tana is an enthusiastic and curious student who cares deeply about serving her new community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and fostering mutual understanding between the United States and her host county through cultural exchange.

10. American Abroad Student of the Month: April 2018

    Phoebe is an exemplary YES Abroad student, who is passionate about integrating into her host community by practicing Arabic and volunteering.
