   U.S. Embassy Manila hosted two State Department Sports Envoys Allison Feaster, former player in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), and Derrick Alston, former player in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

   The State Department and NBA worked together to send former WNBA players Tamika Raymond and Nykesha Sales to Ukraine as Sports Envoys from January 28 to February 2, 2013.

   Sports Envoys Sam Perkins and Dikembe Mutombo traveled to South Sudan in October 2011 to lead a series of basketball clinics and teambuilding exercises with young people ages 12-25.

10. Women's World Cup Initiative

    

    On June 6, 2011, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will launch the Women's World Cup Initiative: Empowering Women and Girls Through Sports, at the Department of State with members of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team and youth soccer players from around the world.
