It's Our Identity, It's Our Pride

I'm Rohit Ranjitkar from Nepal. My profession is conservation architect.

I'm also the Nepal program director for the Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust

and our main goal is to safeguard the historic heritage of the Kathmandu Valley.

There are not only the palace complex or the temples as a monument.

I consider also the old private houses as a monument.

And they are changing their identity quite fast because people don't like old buildings. People like modern buildings.

But they are doing it in a way that they don't restore the building.

They dismantle the building and they start from the foundation. Sort of like a fake traditional building.

So, what I say is everybody should learn about architectural heritage. It's our identity. It's our pride.

These are the things that we got handed over from grandfathers and fathers.

We have to also keep going and we have to also hand over to our grandchildren.

So, they should also know what our ancestors had created such extraordinary architecture to make identity of our country.
