QuestFest
Tim McCarty:
QuestFest is a two-week visual theater festival. It's an international festival. Over 50 performances, workshops, master classes. There's a deaf theater summit.
So, it's a layered opportunity to bring people together over the topic of visual theater.
Hi, my name is Keith. I'm one of the actors. I'm the pig, one of the warriors in heaven.
William:
We are from the Hong Kong Arts with the Disabled Association and we do appreciate visual theater and we do believe that body language and facial expressions and all those physical theater conventions could be very powerful in terms of communicating messages.
QuestFest is a festival that brings cultures together.
Hi, my name is Amy. My character is the goddess in heaven.
Keith:
In the last few days, we gave workshops to elementary school students. We taught them a lot of theater games. We taught them a little of the Chinese performing style. It was great fun. We only wish we had more time.
Tim McCarty:
Visual theater cuts across language and cultural barriers. That means that deaf of hearing people and people who don't speak English can all come together and share the same performance without the use of interpreters, without the use of closed captioning.
It's a shared experience. And when you have shared experiences, that's when community builds.
