Mariam is a straight A student who is taking AP US government, AP American Literature, Creative Writing, Personal Finance, and AP US history classes. She has also completed over 100 hours of volunteering. Mariam really loves helping people and sharing her culture. She often helps the 4th grade teachers at a nearby elementary school with their classes and recently helped host and organize a movie night at the school, where she made popcorn and sold tickets for the event. Mariam loves communicating with children. She admitted that before her exchange she didn't feel she could connect with young kids easily, but she has learned that it is one of her stronger assets. Mariam also enjoys volunteering at church, especially when she is given an opportunity to share about her country.
Mariam has presented about Georgia to different groups of elementary school students on four separate occasions and plans to give a presentation to a group of educators at Midlands University. She enjoys teaching her community about her culture by sharing music playlists of Georgian music and making Georgian dishes and sweets for her friends and host family. Her American friends enjoyed khachapuri so much that she taught them how to make it!
Mariam has had fun participating in the Multi-Cultural Club and is currently leading the plan for organizing a cultural fair at her school. There will be eight countries represented at the fair, and this is the first year that there will be a presentation about Georgia.
In addition to her volunteer work and her involvement in the Multi-Cultural Club, Mariam is helping on the prom committee and is excited for some of the plans that they have for the event. She also recently joined the tennis team and is also an active member of the school’s German Society.
Congrats Mariam!
