2. A-SMYLE Student of the Month – April 2015

   Tijana Nikic, an American Councils-placed American Serbia and Montenegro Youth Leadership Exchange (A-SMYLE) student from Serbia, excelled academically at her host school with a 4.8 GPA and made both the Honor Roll and Headmaster’s List while tutoring other students, volunteering at the public library, and participating in the Debate Team.

   DanceMotion USA Connects Cultures through Collaborative Dance

   Turkish, American, and Armenian dancers performed a collaborative dance piece at the Brooklyn Academy of Music as part of an ongoing cultural exchange sponsored by the Department of State’s DanceMotion USA program.

   Shaquille O'Neal chats briefly about his trip to Cuba as part of the Sports Envoy program.

5. Saudi Arabian Girls Come to the U.S. for Basketball Clinics

   

   Working with the Embassy in Riyadh and the consulate in Jeddah, the U.S. State Department brought over six female teenage basketball players and two coaches for a two-week program.

6. Tajikistan Women's Taekwondo Coaches Delegation

   

   Working with the embassy in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, the U.S. State Department office recruited 12 female taekwondo coaches for a program in the U.S.

7. Snowboarders from Kyrgyzstan Visit the U.S.

   

   The U.S. Department of State office brought twelve snowboarders from Kyrgyzstan to participate in the first-ever Snowboarding Sports Visitor program.

   Jessica Gumucio, Senior at Davidson College, studied Russian in Vladimir, Russia in Summer 2015 on a Critical Language Scholarship (CLS).

9. Announcing the Recipients of the 2017 Emerging Young Leaders Award

   On May 4, 2017 the U.S. Department of State will honor a group of extraordinary young leaders with the Emerging Young Leaders Award.

10. Women's World Cup Initiative

    

    On June 6, 2011, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will launch the Women's World Cup Initiative: Empowering Women and Girls Through Sports, at the Department of State with members of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team and youth soccer players from around the world.
