1. A-SMYLE Student of the Month – April 2015

   Tijana Nikic, an American Councils-placed American Serbia and Montenegro Youth Leadership Exchange (A-SMYLE) student from Serbia, excelled academically at her host school with a 4.8 GPA and made both the Honor Roll and Headmaster’s List while tutoring other students, volunteering at the public library, and participating in the Debate Team.

   YES Abroad Alumna Receives Citizen Diplomacy Award for Dedication to Service, Cultural Exchange

   After her exchange, Sarah Bibbey cofounded an NGO in Kumasi, Ghana called Enliven Mama Africa, which empowers Ghanaian mothers through a diverse portfolio of strategies.

3. December 2015 - American Abroad Student of the Month

   Georgia native Maxwell Meyers fully embraced the YES Abroad program's ideals by going above and beyond to learn about his host country Macedonia and share his American culture through presentations at a local high school and volunteering with a living library project, among many other activities.

4. Celebrating Black History Month in Ethiopia

   The U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa travels around Ethiopia to host a Black History Month Essay Writing Contest.

5. FLEX Student of the Month – February 2017

   Javidan has built a bridge between the people in his home country and Americans in his host community.

7. May 2024 CBYX German Participant of the Month

   The U.S. Department of State and German Bundestag are pleased to announce Friederike Stuehmeyer as the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) German Participant of the Month for May!

8. FLEX Student of the Month – April 2015

   Utilizing his leadership qualities and passion to serve others, Ion held the office of general secretary for the Key Club, volunteered for over 200 hours in his host community, and participated in the Model UN Alaska Conference.

   Christina Carrington, a Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Abroad Program (YES Abroad) participant is the U.S. Department of State’s December 2017 American Abroad Student of the Month. From Kansas and a graduate of Washburn Rural High School, Christina is currently studying in Skopje, Macedonia.

    Pablo Nobre dos Reis as the April 2017 CBYX Student of the Month. Pablo is a Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) student from Germany, hosted in Nevada.
