Natasa Dramicanin, an American Councils A-SMYLE Student from Serbia, has embraced all aspects of her exchange experience wholeheartedly. In just two short months Natasa discovered that she has a home away from home. She enjoys being a member of her host family and participating in community activities. So far, she has volunteered at the American Royal Livestock and Horse Show where she played games with the children who attended. Natasa has also become involved in the school choir, yearbook and photography clubs, and is learning how to play the guitar.

Being a cultural ambassador for Serbia is a role Natasa takes seriously. When Natasa discovered that many of her classmates were unfamiliar with Serbia she sought a way to make learning about her home country interesting, relevant, and fun. During a choir practice session the members expressed an interest in the Serbian language, so Natasa came up with the idea of teaching them a Serbian song. At first, it was hard for them to learn the text of the song, but with help from Natasa, not only did they learn the song, but went on to perform a Serbian song at one of their concerts. Natasa sang the lead in a duet with another choir member. Music opened both their hearts and minds!

Congratulations, Natasa!
