   Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Abroad student Erica Anderson is an active member of her Pietermaritzburg, South Africa community, participating in many activities and clubs.

   Ema, from Serbia, takes every available opportunity to get involved at her host school, participating in sports, dance, singing, and the theater while maintaining a spot on the high honor roll.

   Ingrid Pina, a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) participant is the U.S. Department of State’s January 2019 American Abroad Student of the Month.

6. American Abroad Student of the Month - February 2016

   Matt’s commitment to immersing himself into his host community and his love for Bosnia are highlighted in press and TV interviews. Matt is learning to play a traditional instrument (the tamburica), participates in religious and social events and workshops, volunteers at the local soup kitchen, kindergarten, high school association, and the U.S. Embassy’s American Corner, and is learning how to make traditional dishes.
