1. January 2024 CBYX U.S. Participant of the Month

   The German Bundestag and U.S. Department of State are pleased to announce Emma Kowalczyk as the January Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) U.S. Participant of the Month!  Emma, a CBYX High School program participant from Pierz, Minnesota and recruited by CIEE, is hosted by the Rahmann family in Coesfeld, North Rhine Westphalia. 

2. Samantha Faces her Fears and Masters a New Language

   Samantha never imagined she would one day be conversing comfortably in Turkish with a group of friends in Turkey. But that's exactly what happened during her academic year abroad as part of the NSLI-Y program.

3. Fulbright Specialist Program

   The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as short-term experts at academic and other institutions abroad. They assist host institutions, including universities, non-governmental organizations, think tanks, and other institutions for a period of 2 to 6 weeks with curriculum improvement, faculty development, institutional planning and related issues in a wide range of fields including agriculture, economics, education, and public health, among others.

4. English Language Specialist Program - Eligibility & Application

   U.S. academics and professionals in the fields of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) for short-term (two to sixteen weeks) assignments abroad. This program is an English For All initiative.

5. Bianca Visekruna

   Bianca Visekruna is an alumna of the 2022 CLS Russian program hosted by American University of Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

   Grace Meng, a Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) alumna, tells us about the CLS program enhanced her career in nursing.

8. Overcoming the Fear of Public Speaking: Exchange Builds Confidence

   Prior to the academic year Aaron spent in Russia as a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) participant, he had only given a few speeches to an audience – in English. A native of Portland, ME, Aaron never imagined that during his year abroad he would speak in Russian to an audience of World War II veterans.

9. A Parent's Perspective on Exchange

   “Some questions get answered ahead of time – some don’t,” explains Doug. “It takes a good degree of trust and sense of adventure to allow this whole thing to happen in the first place.”
